Our camper: Hopsie

Hopsie is our self-built motorhome and travels with us on trips, weekend tours, and while we keep improving it on the road.

Self-built

What Hopsie means to us

More small home on wheels than ready-made motorhome: Hopsie should stay cozy, practical, and easy to maintain.

The build is not completely finished yet, but it is far enough that we can start travelling. That is the point for us: try things, improve them, keep building, and learn on the road what really works for us.

In the near future, our trips will probably focus on Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. Karin is still working, so many journeys will be weekend trips, with longer destinations saved for holidays.

A dedicated build section will follow later, including the floor plan, technical equipment, solar, water, controls, and smart home features inside the motorhome.

Why build it ourselves? We wanted more space, more freedom, and a layout that fits our slower way of travelling. That is why Hopsie grows step by step with our experience.

Quick overview

Atego 818 Built in 2017, with a box body of about 7 x 2.4 x 2.4 meters for an individual self-build.
Self-built Planned as a cozy, practical tiny house on wheels with plenty of autonomy.
Slow travel Quiet places, shorter stages, and arriving instead of just collecting kilometers.
Energy & solar Solar power is part of the autonomy plan. We will collect details in the technology section once they are documented properly.
Water Fresh water, grey water, and the bathroom area should be practical for everyday use and easy to maintain. The exact setup will grow in the documentation.
Technology & controls Control and smart-home features should support everyday life in Hopsie without becoming unnecessarily complicated.
