Hirtshals Camping – Beautiful Location with Limitations for Larger Motorhomes Hirtshals Camping is located on a large grassy area above the cliffs. Its position right by the sea is genuinely beautiful, and the pitches in the front rows in particular offer wonderful views of the coast. However, the campsite feels more like a traditional tent and camping site that now also accommodates many motorhomes. With a larger motorhome, the choice of attractive pitches is therefore limited. The most appealing pitches at the front by the sea are mainly easy to reach with smaller campers up to around six metres in length. Larger vehicles are more likely to end up in the rear areas, where there is much less of a view. We also found the routes around the site a little awkward. From our area, there was no direct and clearly marked access to the cliffs. To get there, we had to cross another camper’s pitch and climb over a small fence. It did not feel particularly convenient or appropriate for a campsite. There also seem to be few direct routes for pedestrians within the site itself. Anyone who did not want to take the long access roads used by motorhomes often crossed pitches and climbed over the small fences. As a result, people regularly walked across our pitch, which we did not find particularly pleasant. The setting of Hirtshals Camping is undoubtedly beautiful, and it can work well for smaller campers or as a stopover before or after the ferry. With a larger motorhome, however, we would pay much closer attention to the pitch we are given next time – because the lovely view is not available from everywhere.
