Hvide Sande – Spending the Night Right Behind the Dunes

For our night in Hvide Sande, we chose a very simple motorhome stop right behind the dunes – and sometimes you really don't need much more than that. The place is basically a large sandy parking area. It's not a campsite, there are no marked pitches and you shouldn't expect much in the way of comfort. But in return, you're only a few steps away from a beautiful North Sea beach. Just cross the dunes and you're surrounded by sand, sea and the typical scenery of Denmark's west coast. During the day, the parking area is also popular with beachgoers and surfers, so it can get quite busy. The place was still fairly full during our stay, with plenty of motorhomes around us. Despite that, we had a surprisingly peaceful and quiet night – something we hadn't necessarily expected with so many vehicles parked here. The overnight fee is €25 for the period from 8:00 pm to 9:00 am. That's certainly not cheap for what is essentially a simple sandy parking area, but the basic facilities are there. Toilets are available, along with fresh water and facilities for emptying grey and black water. Reviews online largely match our own experience. The fantastic location directly behind the dunes and the proximity to the beach are mentioned again and again as the main highlights. Some visitors are less impressed by the rather basic facilities and the limited number of toilets. For us, the place worked really well for one night. An evening walk across the dunes to the North Sea, followed by a surprisingly quiet night's sleep, and then simply getting back on the road the next morning – that's exactly what this place is good for. €25 is quite a lot for a simple parking area, but the fantastic location right by the beach and the available service facilities make up for quite a bit of that. Our verdict: A simple place in a fantastic location and surprisingly quiet despite the number of motorhomes. We'd definitely stay here again for a night.
