Skagen

After travelling along Denmark’s west coast, we have finally reached the destination of our journey: Skagen and the northernmost tip of Denmark. Our place for the night is a large and fairly simple parking area close to Grenen. Outside the main season, overnight parking here is free. There are no real facilities – no electricity, no fresh water and no waste disposal. For us, however, that is not a problem. After all, this is exactly why we built our motorhome to be self-sufficient. What you do get here is something that is difficult to put on a list of campsite facilities: peace and quiet. We had a wonderfully peaceful night. Once the last visitors had left in the evening, everything around us became quiet and properly dark. No streetlights, no traffic and no noise. Only the lighthouse remained in operation throughout the night, regularly sending its beam of light through the darkness – somehow the perfect companion for a night at the very top of Denmark. Apparently, we are not alone with this impression. Other motorhome travellers also describe the place as very peaceful at night and particularly appreciate its location. During the day, Grenen naturally attracts plenty of visitors, but in the evening the area becomes much quieter. This seems to be when the place reveals its very special atmosphere. You should not expect any comfort or facilities here. There is no electricity, no water and no supply or disposal station. Instead, you get plenty of space, peace, darkness and a location that could hardly be more fitting for the destination of our journey. And now we really have arrived: Skagen – you simply cannot go any further north in Denmark.
