Vorupør Camping
Vorupør Camping is beautifully situated and offers some genuinely unusual and attractive pitches. We especially liked the more secluded pitches scattered around the site, which make a pleasant change from the typical campsite layout with one pitch lined up next to another. The proximity to the coast and the surrounding landscape are also definite highlights. What impressed us much less, however, was the overall operating concept. The campsite is run almost entirely without any staff on site. Booking is done online or at a self-service terminal, and the barrier opens automatically using number plate recognition. In principle, such a system can be convenient, but we really missed having a personal contact available at the campsite. If you have a question or encounter a problem, your only option is telephone support. This becomes particularly noticeable on a campsite of this size. We also missed proper signs showing you how to find your booked pitch. Instead, you have to drive around the site and search for it yourself. With the somewhat winding and hilly layout, this is unnecessarily inconvenient. What left the most negative impression on us, however, was the pricing structure. The basic overnight rate is already far from cheap, yet additional services are consistently charged separately. Electricity costs extra, and even taking a shower requires an additional payment. With a low basic rate, this might be understandable. But considering the price of the overnight stay and the fact that there is practically no staff on site, it simply doesn't add up for us. Unfortunately, this gave us the impression that the whole concept is heavily optimised to generate as much revenue as possible while keeping staffing and service costs to an absolute minimum. Of course, a campsite has to operate profitably, but in our opinion the balance between price, service and value for money has shifted too far towards profit optimisation here. That is a real shame, because the campsite itself has a lot of potential thanks to its beautiful location and some genuinely interesting pitches. With someone available on site, better signage and a pricing structure that includes at least the basic services in the overnight rate, our overall impression would have been considerably more positive. Our conclusion: A beautifully located and interesting campsite, but its strict self-service and pay-for-everything concept simply doesn't match the price for us. We were left with the feeling of being customers of a highly automated business model rather than guests at a campsite.
